What is Wick?
Wick is a student-focused app designed to help balance school, work, self-care, and relationships without feeling burned out. Instead of using multiple apps to stay organized, Wick brings everything into one place. Students can manage daily tasks, set reminders, and create schedules that fit their routine.
One of Wick’s main features is the Pomodoro candle, which works as a visual timer. Users can choose how long they want to focus, and as time passes, the candle slowly burns down. This helps make studying and time management feel calmer and less stressful, while also being useful for meditation or short breaks.
Wick also includes an AI assistant that helps with daily planning, suggests study times, and gives gentle reminders based on the user’s schedule. The app is designed with a clean and calming interface to help students stay focused without distractions. Overall, Wick is meant to support productivity while also reminding students to slow down, take care of themselves, and keep a healthy balance in their daily lives.
What Problem Does Wick Address?
Many people struggle to balance school, work, self-care, and relationships at the same time. With busy schedules, constant deadlines, and outside responsibilities, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or burned out. People often rely on multiple apps to manage tasks, reminders, and schedules, which can become confusing and stressful instead of helpful.
Traditional productivity apps also tend to focus only on getting work done and ignore mental health and personal well-being. This can make students feel pressured to always be productive without taking breaks or caring for themselves.
Wick addresses this problem by combining productivity and self-care into one app. It helps people stay organized while encouraging healthy focus habits through features like the Pomodoro candle and AI planning support. By keeping everything in one calm, easy-to-use space, Wick helps students manage their time better without feeling overwhelmed.
Concept Development
I came up with the idea for Wick after noticing how stressed students can get while juggling school, work, self-care, and relationships. Most productivity tools focus on getting things done, but they often ignore how people feel while staying organized. My goal was to build an app that helps users manage their time and also supports a healthier, more balanced way of living.
Research Conducted
To help me make design choices, I looked into the common problems students have with managing their time and feeling burned out. Here’s what I found:
-
Students often use multiple apps for tasks, calendars, and reminders, which can feel cluttered and inefficient.
-
Many users feel pressure from productivity apps that emphasize constant output.
-
Techniques like the Pomodoro method are effective but can feel rigid or repetitive.
I also checked out other productivity apps and noticed that, even though they work well, they usually don’t offer much personalization or emotional support. This showed me there was a chance to create something more structured but also more mindful and focused on the user.
Features and Design Choices
From my research, I added features that help with both getting things done and taking care of your well-being:
-
All-in-one organization tools for tasks, reminders, and scheduling to reduce app overload
-
A Pomodoro candle timer, which visually represents focus time in a calming, less mechanical way
-
An AI assistant that helps users plan their day, suggest study times, and provide gentle reminders
-
A clean, minimal interface designed to reduce distractions and create a sense of calm
I made sure each feature feels supportive, not demanding, so users can stay productive without feeling more stressed.
Use of Design Conventions
When designing Wick, I used important UI/UX design rules to make sure it’s easy to use and feels familiar:
-
Consistency: Repeated visual elements, colors, and layouts to make navigation intuitive
-
Hierarchy: Clear organization of information so users can quickly understand what to focus on
-
Simplicity: Minimalist design to avoid overwhelming users with too many options
-
Feedback: Visual cues (like the candle burning down) to show progress and keep users engaged
-
Accessibility: Easy-to-read text, calming colors, and straightforward navigation
By sticking to these design rules, Wick stays easy to use but still gives users a unique and meaningful experience.
Wick is more than just a productivity app. It’s made to help students handle their responsibilities and take care of themselves at the same time. With features based on research and careful design, Wick gives users a balanced way to stay efficient and look after their well-being.
